The Razer Gaming Tablet

There’s room for a number of tablet made for a number of purposes, but this latest gaming tablet has taken tablet hardware specs to an entirely separate level

This past week a company called Razer has added their tablet to our modest list of specialized hand-held mobile devices as they’ve now announced their plans to release a tablet designed especially for gaming.

Razer considers themselves a “world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, software and systems” and their latest gaming system in a tablet appears to match their claims. Take a look:

The Co-Founder and CEO of Razer, Min-Liang Tan says that “Razer has one mission in mind: to innovate for PC gamers worldwide”. Razer has also made another claim and that claim is that their tablet is “the most powerful tablet in the world”. By the looks of the system specs, it surely appears that way:

* Intel Core i5 Dual core w/ Hyper Threading Base 1.7GHz / Turbo 2.6GHz
* 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB 1600MHz)
Intel HD4000 (DX11) NVIDIA GT 640M LE (1GB DDR3, Optimus Technology)
10.1” (IPS, 1366×768) Multi-touch HD display
* 64GB SSD (SATA-III)*
* Intel WLAN (802.11b/g/n + BT4)

What’s ironic about this out this world tablet though is that in addition to all of that, it runs:

* Windows 8 and comes pre-loaded with Valve’s Steam gaming engine

Just feel free to
take a look at some of the various articles we have where Valve’s CEO, Gabe Newell, slams Windows 8 and Windows in general for having become a non-suitable gaming platform for his world famous Valve gaming product and how Linux systems completely blew Windows 8 out of the water in Steam gaming test results.

None the less, the Razer does have some awesome specs and if UEFI doesn’t get in the way, perhaps there will be a select group of people out there willing to take this awesome tablet hardware and turn it into a Linux gaming powerhouse like no other. It should be noted though that although Gabe Newell hates Windows 8, it seems as though the OS is actually outperforming Linux Ubuntu in some ways, that according to a Phronix report.

In fact, if you like gaming, be sure to check out the past article on the Xi3 for another great up and coming dedicated gaming system.
